Voice activated speakers have become very popular in the last few months. In the year 2018, people will not be learning how to use these devices; they’ll be weaving them into their daily lives and routines.
Since its release in the U.S in June 2015, Amazon have sold an estimated 21.5 million Echo units. This notable popularity caused many other companies to enter the voice activated speakers market, most notably Google. Having sold over 7.5 million units of its Google Home, it has become a direct competitor.
VOICE ASSISTANCE FIGURES
I have been researching and found how the emerging technology is shaping consumer behaviours. As have Google, who found that users with voice activated speakers:
- It allows users to easily multitask.
- It enables them to do things faster than other devices.
- Its empowers users to instantly get answers and information.
- It makes their daily routine easier.
- 52% of users who own voice activated speakers in the most popular room of the home.
- 25% of users keep their voice activated speaker in their bedroom.
- 22% of users keep their voice activated speaker in the kitchen.
Voice Activated speakers have quickly become part of people’s everyday lives. The virtual personal assistant is able to help users with checking commute times, setting reminders to record a TV program. No more hand written notes, people are getting more done with less friction.
By introducing voice activated speakers into the household, people are having better relationships with technology. Users will speak to them in a polite manner and, sometimes, better than they do humans. A high percentage of users asking questions include “please” and “thank you” at the end of their queries.
41% of people who own a voice activated speaker say it feels like talking to a friend or another person.
The advantage to brands is that people who own a voice activated speakers welcome brands as part of the experience. Users are more open to receiving information that is useful and relevant to their lifestyle.
WHAT DO USERS WANT?
We found that users want to hear the following from brands they follow or show an interest in:
- Information about deals, sales, and promotions.
- Personalised tips and information to make life easier.
- Information about upcoming events and activities.
- Options to find business information this will include store opening times and location.
- Access to customer service and support.
Businesses will soon be able to advertise on these voice activated platforms. This will surely change the the future in which advertisers market their brand.
