Facebook News Feed

Are you seeing relevant content on your Facebook feed? Have you stopped seeing friends posts and group notifications and want to see them return?

In response to ongoing algorithm and privacy conundrums, Facebook is launching a brand new feature which will allow users to see posts in chronological order as opposed to content ranked by an algorithm.

These new features will initially be rolled out on mobile shortly followed by desktop.

Facebook is aiming to bring back connectivity between family and friends as well as enabling future discovery to expand your network and user experience.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post “One of the most requested features for Facebook is to make sure people don’t miss friends’ posts. So we’re launching a Feeds tab where you can see posts from your friends, groups, pages and more separately in chronological order.”

So how will the 2 New Feeds Look?

Home Tab:
Find & Follow New Content
  • Your Facebook ‘home’ tab will now be the default news feed within Facebook.
  • The home tab uses machine learning to discover new content based on your online habits and recommendations.
  • Home Feeds layout will resemble a similar format to TikTok.
  • Users can create reels, stories and additional new personalised content from their home feeds.

Feeds Tab:
Stay Updated With Friends/Group Posts/Notifications
  • The all new ‘feeds’ tab will be dedicated to posts from friends, pages, groups and favourites.
  • New filters will be available so you can add a list of favourites. This ensures you continue seeing the content you want to see.
  • No ‘suggested for you’ content will show here.
  • Ads will be included.

The overall objective of these features is to provide users with more control over the content they see on Facebook. However it is also to keep up with the growing popularlity of short form video content such as reels and stories.

In terms of advertising, inventory will be available to purchase on the new Feeds tab which will then be served to users based on their historic habits and recommendations. Therefore users will still continue to see relevant content and you can be assured that your ads remain fully targeted and are showing to appropriate users.

In summary, the feeds tab will be sticking with what you already know. The community you have built throughout your time on Facebook. Engaging with people and brands you have either selected or are being exposed to based on similar interests – this includes the ad content you will be shown.

Whereas the home feed is designed to expand your network. It will expose you to additional content and pages (based on your interests) with the view to enhance your social media experience and broaden your horizons. A great opportunity for brands to reach new customers based on their preferences.

It will be interesting to see how these changes effect Facebook users and their experience going forward. Beyond Clicks will continue to monitor the impact of these changes from a social media management and consumer perspective.
